We are looking for a stellar Corporate Controller to join our team! Reporting to the CFO, you will be a trusted partner, building out and managing various aspects of the finance department, including analytics, monthly reporting, accounting operations, systems, audit, and tax. You will be involved in preparing board presentations and will work closely with the senior leadership team. You will build strong relationships across all departments in the Company, instilling a culture of strong communication and partnership with finance.

The Controller will lead all day-to-day finance operations and supervise a team of six staff members including functional responsibility over SaaS metrics, accounting, payables, receivables, commissions, payroll, and international expansion. Additionally, the Controller will lead our insurance renewals, participate in benefits reviews and renewals, and assist with our banking relationships.

Day in the Life

  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for SaaS sales results, revenue reporting, accruals, and cash management
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for technical accounting matters (e.g. revenue recognition, stock compensation expense, leases, debt, intangibles, etc.)
  • Cash management and forecast (collections and disbursements)
  • Prepare monthly financial package for review w/ CFO
  • Coordinate all audit activities with Auditors
  • Oversight of international operations in India, Brazil, United Kingdom and Netherlands, including regulatory, audit, and taxes
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and fluxes
  • Expand repeatable accounting processes to international team in India
  • Manage the close process via Floqast and Netsuite
  • Key partner in the budgeting and planning process
  • Support the CFO in engaging the board’s audit and finance committees around issues and trends in financial operating model
  • Other duties as assigned

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification is preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting and financial operations, with at least 4 years in a leadership role
  • Proven working experience as a Controller or Head of Accounting in a high-growth SaaS or technology company.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, tax laws, and relevant financial regulations
  • Proficiency in defining, documenting, and implementing accounting and processes
  • Proficiency in Netsuite and Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Ownership mindset with the ability to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board, or other outside partners

Compensation and Benefits at Degreed

Degreed is passionate about pay transparency and we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range for this role is $200,000 - $275,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to: skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Degreed is a remote-first company, however our roles are open to in-office or hybrid if you live in a city with a physical office location. This role has the opportunity to operate 100% virtually from your home office. We primarily collaborate with our US and International colleagues through virtual meetings (Zoom), email, and Slack. In this role, you will be required to operate a laptop computer, computer software platforms, and other office productivity machinery as necessary. Due to the nature of this role, you must be able to remain stationary for extended periods, and must be able to observe and interpret written and/or verbal communication.
