🛠️ Senior / Staff Backend Engineer

🚀 About the Role

Jolt is looking for a Senior / Staff Backend Engineer to join our Labels Team and take ownership of backend architecture and scalable API development. This role offers a rare opportunity to influence core backend infrastructure, collaborate cross-functionally, and deliver impactful features in a fast-growing product space involving software and hardware integration.

You’ll work closely with product, QA, frontend, and mobile teams to design low-latency endpoints and build robust, scalable services that power Jolt’s operational platform. This is a hands-on position requiring a self-starter who loves challenges, communicates clearly, and drives technical excellence.

🔧 What You’ll Do

• Design and implement scalable, low-latency APIs to support sensor infrastructure and backend services.
  
  
• Collaborate with product, QA, frontend, and mobile teams to deliver new features and maintain backend systems.
  
  
• Implement observability best practices for backend services.
  
  
• Own backend architecture decisions and drive technical strategy within the team.
  
  
• Balance mostly new development (~70%) with ongoing maintenance and improvements.
  
  
• Deliver production-ready features within the first 90 days.
  
  

✅ What You Bring

• 5–7+ years of professional experience with backend development.
  
  
• Strong expertise in NodeJS and Typescript.
  
  
• Solid understanding of GraphQL, MySQL/Postgres, and database design.
  
  
• Experience with Docker or containerization technologies.
  
  
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in code reviews and cross-team collaboration.
  
  
• Self-starter mindset with ability to challenge and collaborate with developers and product teams.
  
  

🌟 Nice to Haves

• Experience with PHP, Java, Kafka/Scrims, and data pipelines (ETL).
  
  
• Familiarity with AWS technologies and cloud infrastructure.
  
  
• Background working with software-hardware integrations or automation testing.
  
  
• Some front-end or mobile experience to understand full-stack relationships.
  
  
• Side projects or open-source contributions, especially related to mobile or backend.
  
  
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
