The opportunity
We are seeking a People Business Partner (PBP) to drive employee-relations and performance effectiveness efforts within People Operations, impacting all Route team members. This role is critically important in ensuring Route is operating in compliance across all geographies in which we reside, as well as driving performance across the business.
This role involves close collaboration with core People Ops, Talent Acquisition, and Legal teams. The person in this role will ensure compliance with policies, practices and applicable employment legislation. The PBP will provide HR consultation and mentorship to managers and employees on performance management, employee relations, and the consistent application of employment policies. Additionally, the role will drive team effectiveness to support a high-growth workforce, through goal setting, performance evaluations, managing underperformance and individual coaching. This role may manage key HR functions like leaves of absence, accommodations, and maintaining HR data integrity.
What you’ll do
- Act as subject matter expert on HR compliance, performance and act in an advisory role to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Partners with People Business Partners, other teams and People leaders to ensure that Investigations/Disciplinary processes are handled in a fair, timely manner consistent with local requirements including all required documentation.
- Manage FMLA/ADA/LOA practices
- Complete all mandatory country-specific lawful and required reports and compliance initiatives, such as the US-required EEOC and AAP reports.
- Collaborate with Legal and Talent Acquisition to keep our verification process up to date with global laws and regulations including escalations as needed.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure that all processes and compliance initiatives are being followed, and educate adjacent teams. Suggest iterations to ensure we remain compliant.
- Review and understand legislation in locations where we have legal hiring entities
- Collaborate with management teams to identify and effectively address employee relations issues including drafting performance plans, employee warnings and resolution plans
- Provides employee relations support, thought partnership, and coaching to all team members and levels of management in the organization on issues such as absenteeism, performance, conduct and alleged harassment.
- Executes on company-wide Talent Programs including performance reviews, promotion reviews, and talent assessment.
- Support implementation and training for HR programs, policies, and initiatives
- Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring sophisticated and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Ensure accurate maintenance of confidential employee information; HRIS data entry, supervising new hire data, documentation and retention information
What we’re looking for
- 3-6 years experience managing employee relations, performance effectiveness and compliance initiatives in a fast-paced environment, tech/start-up experience preferred.
- Demonstrates empathy and facilitates conflict resolution situations.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communications with the ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels within the company to ensure needs are met.
- High level of independence, with an ability to work autonomously with high attention to detail.
- Must exercise confidentiality and discretion in dealing with sensitive, complex and time sensitive employment matters.
- Demonstrates solid judgment and experience assessing risk relative to the business.
- Comfortable with high volume and very fast-paced workload; not afraid to “roll up your sleeves” to complete more tactical work. Able to switch between strategic and tactical work daily.
- Experienced in learning and thriving in a constantly changing environment and able to cultivate relationships across distributed teams.
- Must be able to become a trusted adviser by providing consultation and resolution guidance to promote a positive culture.
- Experience with HRIS systems such as Paylocity, Lattice, Greenhouse or similar systems.

Pay Transparency
Salary for this role: $85,000 - $95,000
The cash compensation above includes base salary, and is not reflective of potential commission for employees in eligible roles, or annual bonus targets under Route’s bonus plan for eligible roles. In addition to cash compensation, all Route employees are eligible to participate in Routes equity incentive plan to receive stock options per the terms of the agreement. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay. Individual compensation packages are based on a few different factors unique to each candidate, including their career level, skills, experience, specific geographic location qualifications and other job-related reasons.
